The Forum of All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government Party Chairmen of Nigeria, Southwest Zone, has officially endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was made during the forum’s Southwest quarterly meeting held on Saturday at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Speaking at the event, the National Chairman of the Forum and Ogun State APC LG Chairmen leader, Mr. Henry Fagbenro, described Tinubu as a visionary leader who has taken “bold and strategic steps” to restore Nigeria’s economic stability and prosperity.
“The Southwest is the home base of our hardworking President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He has done fantastically well in redefining good governance since his election over two years ago,” Fagbenro stated.
“We are saying that President Tinubu deserves another term till 2031, and we will do everything legally possible to make this a reality.”
Fagbenro said the forum would embark on massive grassroots mobilisation across the six states of the Southwest to ensure a landslide victory for Tinubu in 2027 and reclaim Oyo and Osun States from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He also praised Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun for prioritising infrastructural development and economic growth, urging him to sustain his administration’s efforts at improving the lives of residents.
In his remarks, the Southwest Coordinator of the forum, Elder Rufus Awotidoye, described Tinubu’s re-election bid as “non-negotiable,” calling for unity among APC members.
“The 2027 Presidential Election is a defining moment for our party and for President Tinubu. The Southwest carries a special responsibility to stand united and focused to ensure that the APC continues to lead Nigeria on the path of renewed hope and prosperity,” Awotidoye said.
The National Secretary of the Forum, Mr. Norbert Sochukudinma, urged party members in the region to remain steadfast and committed, noting that the Southwest’s performance in 2027 would influence the outcome of the election nationwide.
Also speaking, Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Daisi Elemide, called for the restoration of party supremacy to strengthen democracy and good governance. He reiterated his support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition, citing his achievements in economic reform, infrastructure, and security.
The former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Ishola, emphasised the importance of unity and inclusivity within the party, noting that “a divided house cannot win an election.”
Delivering the keynote address, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Dr. Pius Akutah, represented by Atiso Mofiren, urged APC LG chairmen to intensify mobilisation at the grassroots. He said Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda must be sustained to consolidate the nation’s progress in economic growth, food security, infrastructure, education, and social welfare.
PUNCH Online recalls that in May 2025, the APC National Working Committee endorsed President Tinubu as the party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
The Southwest zone—comprising Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo, and Osun States—has since reiterated its commitment to delivering overwhelming support for Tinubu’s re-election.
