Chairman of the and Governor of , , has expressed sympathy with the Government and traders affected by the devastating fire that razed Singa Market in Kano.
The inferno, which swept through the popular market, reportedly destroyed goods and property valued at over ₦5 billion, disrupted more than 1,000 businesses and left seven persons unaccounted for.
In a statement issued on Sunday from Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Abiodun described the incident as one of the most painful in the history of the market, lamenting the massive loss of livelihoods, particularly among small-scale traders operating within residential buildings affected by the blaze.
According to him, the destruction of four residential structures housing business owners, alongside the loss of equipment, merchandise and other valuables, has placed many families under severe economic strain.
The governor urged affected traders to remain hopeful, assuring them that the Kano State Government would take necessary steps to support victims and cushion the impact of the disaster.
He noted that the administration of was making efforts to manage the situation and assist those impacted.
“On behalf of my colleagues in the Southern Governors’ Forum, I commiserate with the Kano State Government and the traders affected by this unfortunate incident,” Abiodun said, calling for strengthened safety measures by market authorities and local government officials to prevent a recurrence.
He reaffirmed the solidarity of southern governors with Kano State, stressing the need for coordinated efforts nationwide to safeguard markets and protect livelihoods.
