Vice President Kashim Shettima has praised Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi for what he described as remarkable strides in transforming the state’s agricultural sector and strengthening Nigeria’s overall food security agenda.
Shettima gave the commendation in Gumel on Friday during the commissioning of the newly reconstructed multi-billion-naira Gumel Central Jumu’at Mosque, a project funded by the Kashim Shettima Foundation.
Highlighting Jigawa’s cultivation of 105,000 hectares of wheat, the Vice President said the governor’s efforts have significantly boosted Nigeria’s progress toward food self-sufficiency and economic resilience.
“Governor Namadi has shown within just two years that he is equal to the task,” Shettima said. “Jigawa’s success in modern agriculture demonstrates what is possible when leadership, innovation, and commitment align. The state has become an island of peace and stability, and a model for the rest of the country.”
During a courtesy visit to the Emir of Gumel, HRH Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Sani II, Shettima congratulated the traditional ruler on his 45th anniversary on the throne, applauding his leadership and service to the emirate.
The commissioning of the Gumel Central Jumu’at Mosque was attended by Governor Namadi, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, and several other dignitaries.
Reaffirming the federal government’s stance on strengthening Nigeria’s traditional institutions, Shettima noted that traditional rulers remain central to grassroots governance and community stability. He stressed that while political administrations come and go, traditional leadership remains a constant anchor for society.
The Vice President also pledged continued humanitarian and developmental interventions through the Kashim Shettima Foundation, promising to support initiatives that uplift communities across the country.
