Saudi Arabian authorities have announced Friday, March 20, 2026, as the day for the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The declaration followed the non-sighting of the crescent moon, which signifies the beginning of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar.
The announcement was made on Wednesday via the HaraminInfo social media platforms, confirming that Ramadan will complete 30 days this year.
According to the statement, the inability to sight the crescent moon means that Muslim faithful will conclude the 1447 AH fast on Friday before commencing Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
The statement also offered prayers for Muslims, urging them to make the most of the remaining moments of Ramadan and asking for acceptance of their fasting, prayers and good deeds.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government of Nigeria had earlier declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
The declaration was conveyed in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The minister congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of Ramadan and urged them to continue upholding the values of peace, love, tolerance, generosity and sacrifice emphasised during the holy month.
