Pastor Adeboye officiates historic ceremony in Kampala, charges new Bishop to advance gospel across Africa
The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has celebrated the episcopal consecration of Pastor Patience Museveni Rwabwogo, daughter of Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni, as Bishop, describing the historic ceremony as a significant moment in the emergence of a new generation of apostolic and episcopal leadership in Africa.
The consecration took place at Covenant Nations Church in Luzira, Kampala, Uganda, during the 20th-anniversary celebration of the church founded by Bishop Rwabwogo. The ceremony was officiated by the General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, while Pastor Mrs. Folu Adeboye administered the sacramental anointing.
The occasion brought together senior political, religious and evangelical leaders from Uganda, East Africa and beyond, including President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni, who witnessed the consecration of their daughter into episcopal ministry.
The RCCG said Bishop Rwabwogo’s elevation represents both the culmination of a remarkable spiritual journey and an expansion of the leadership platform through which she can contribute to the advancement of the gospel across Africa.
According to the church, her consecration demonstrates its commitment to raising and releasing emerging apostolic and episcopal leaders who can provide spiritual leadership, develop new generations of disciples and extend Christian influence into communities and institutions across the continent.
Adeboye Charges New Bishop
Pastor Adeboye, in his commissioning address, reminded Bishop Rwabwogo that her elevation carries an enlarged responsibility before God.
“Promotion comes from the Lord,” he declared, charging the new Bishop to embrace her calling with courage and humility.
He said her episcopal ministry should be marked by revival, transformation and the demonstration of God’s power, while urging her to focus not merely on maintaining existing structures but on multiplication.
The RCCG General Overseer charged her to plant churches, disciple leaders and establish the kingdom of God in her generation.
“Go forward with boldness. The mantle of spiritual authority is upon you,” Adeboye declared.
The words set the tone for a ceremony that the RCCG described as a commissioning into a broader season of ministry and continental influence.
Pastor Folu Adeboye Leads Anointing
Pastor Mrs. Folu Adeboye led the anointing prayer for Bishop Rwabwogo, invoking God’s blessing upon her, her household, her ministry and Covenant Nations Church.
The prayer focused on spiritual authority, prophetic grace, pastoral compassion and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit for the responsibilities associated with episcopal leadership.
The anointing, conducted in an atmosphere of worship and reverence, represented a significant spiritual moment in the consecration and formally marked Bishop Rwabwogo’s transition into her new office.
From Prayer Gathering to International Ministry
The RCCG highlighted Bishop Rwabwogo’s record of ministry as an important part of the story behind her elevation.
Approximately two decades ago, she founded Covenant Nations Church as a small prayer gathering. The ministry has since grown into an international evangelical organisation with congregations across Uganda and beyond.
The church said the growth reflects Bishop Rwabwogo’s commitment to kingdom building, leadership development, discipleship and practical application of the gospel.
Her consecration therefore comes after years of ministry and organisational development rather than as an isolated elevation.
‘Greater Responsibility and Accountability’
In her acceptance remarks, Bishop Rwabwogo received the new office with humility and gratitude, acknowledging that divine promotion also brings greater responsibility and accountability.
She said she hoped the elevation would facilitate expanded impact in discipleship, church planting and community transformation.
For Bishop Rwabwogo, the gospel must extend beyond the pulpit and influence the institutions and structures that shape society.
She said Christian witness must contribute to the transformation of education systems, healthcare institutions, business enterprises, family structures and the conscience of nations.
“This is our apostolic mandate,” she said.
RCCG Affirms Women in Spiritual Leadership
The RCCG also used the occasion to reaffirm its belief that God’s gifts and callings transcend gender, generation and geography.
The church cited the prophecy of Joel concerning the outpouring of God’s Spirit upon all flesh, including the prophetic ministry of sons and daughters, as part of its biblical basis for recognising women called into positions of spiritual leadership.
The RCCG said women serving in apostolic and episcopal capacities should not be viewed as a departure from Scripture, but as part of the continuing work of the Holy Spirit in the church.
The consecration of Bishop Rwabwogo, it said, reflects its commitment to raising women leaders capable of exercising spiritual authority and contributing to the transformation of nations.
President Museveni Witnesses Daughter’s Consecration
The presence of President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni added a deeply personal and national dimension to the ceremony, as they witnessed their daughter assume episcopal office.
The RCCG expressed gratitude for the President’s recognition of the spiritual significance of the occasion and his affirmation of the role of faith leaders in nation-building.
The church said the participation of Uganda’s political leadership underscored the important role religious institutions can play in promoting moral leadership, social responsibility and national transformation.
Bishop Rwabwogo’s position as the President’s daughter, however, was presented against the backdrop of her two decades of independent ministry and the growth of Covenant Nations Church.
International Witnesses at Historic Ceremony
The ceremony reflected the international character of Bishop Rwabwogo’s ministry and the broader evangelical community.
Distinguished guests included President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni; Bishop Dr. Moses Odongo and representatives of the NFBPC; evangelical leaders from across East Africa; and international apostolic witnesses including Bishop LaDonna Osborn.
Worship was led by Israeli ministers Emmanuel Roro and Helen Yilma, whose ministry contributed to the atmosphere of worship and celebration during the historic ceremony.
A New Chapter for Covenant Nations Church
The episcopal consecration coincided with the 20th anniversary of Covenant Nations Church, giving the occasion additional significance.
For the church, the anniversary and consecration together represent a watershed moment in the development of Bishop Rwabwogo’s ministry and the wider African evangelical movement.
The RCCG said it believes the Holy Spirit is establishing new platforms and raising leaders for an unprecedented season of gospel advancement across the continent.
It described the present period as a “season of emerging apostolic ministry,” with men and women being equipped to carry Christian witness into spheres of influence previously untouched by sustained gospel engagement.
Bishop Patience Museveni Rwabwogo, the daughter of Uganda’s President, is now positioned within that emerging leadership landscape as she assumes her new episcopal responsibilities.
The RCCG said it would continue to walk alongside Bishop Rwabwogo and other emerging African leaders in the pursuit of continental revival, church multiplication, discipleship and gospel saturation.
The church expressed the hope that her episcopal ministry would lead to thousands of conversions, the multiplication of churches, transformation of communities and the advancement of the Christian gospel across Africa and the nations.
For Bishop Rwabwogo, the consecration marks a new chapter. For Covenant Nations Church, it represents two decades of ministry coming to a defining milestone. And for the RCCG, it is another indication of what it describes as a new season of African Christian leadership.
