The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti Chapter, has commended President and the Federal Government for the ongoing expansion of the Ado–Ijan–Ikare Road in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The road serves as the major access route to the and had been in a deplorable condition for several years.
In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday and signed by ASUP-FPA Chairman, Caleb Adeosun, and Publicity Secretary, Oyewale Oyelola, the union also praised the efforts of the three senators representing Ekiti State— (Ekiti Central), (Ekiti South), and (Ekiti North)—for facilitating the project.
The lecturers particularly acknowledged Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele for engaging union leaders at his constituency office in March 2024 and assuring the polytechnic community of intervention following a protest staged over the poor state of the road.
While expressing appreciation for the progress recorded on the project, the union urged the senators to sustain their oversight functions to ensure quality delivery by the contractor handling the expansion.
“Our union does not only agitate or criticise. As a progressive-minded union, we also applaud the government when we deem it fit,” the statement read.
The union also commended Ekiti State Governor for constructing the Ring Road linking the Ado-Ekiti–Ijan Road to the Afao–Iworoko–Ado-Ekiti Road, describing it as a relief to staff members due to reduced traffic congestion and travel time.
Additionally, the lecturers appreciated the founder of , , for consistently undertaking palliative rehabilitation of the Ado–Ijan–Ikare Road over the years.
The Ado–Ijan axis of the federal road links Ekiti State with neighbouring states including Ondo and Kogi. Several major establishments are situated along the corridor, including the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Afe Babalola University, Ekiti Knowledge Zone and the Ekiti Cargo International Airport.
Contractors recently commenced rehabilitation work on the Ado–Ijan section of the road as part of federal efforts to improve infrastructure in the state.
