The Inspector-General of Police has re-arraigned Nollywood actress Angela Okorie before the Federal High Court in Abuja on a seven-count amended charge bordering on alleged cyberstalking.
At the resumed proceedings, Okorie pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The prosecution requested a short adjournment to enable it to open its case. Counsel to the defendant did not oppose the request but informed the court that a bail application had been filed on behalf of the actress, urging the court to exercise its discretion in her favour.
The prosecution opposed the bail application, arguing that the defendant had jumped the administrative bail earlier granted by the police. Prosecutors told the court that her sureties could not be located and that Okorie had to be re-arrested and brought before the court.
The alleged offences are said to carry jail terms ranging from three to five years if proven.
Responding to the prosecution’s claims, defence counsel argued that Okorie did not abscond but travelled for medical treatment, a development he said was duly communicated to the police.
In his ruling, Justice Emeka Nwite granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦5 million with one surety in like sum. The court ordered that the surety must be a level 13 civil servant whose residence within the court’s jurisdiction would be verified.
The judge further directed that both the defendant and her surety deposit their passport photographs with the court.
The case was adjourned until March 23, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
