In a dramatic confrontation, Lagos State Police have engaged suspected kidnappers in a fierce shootout resulting in nine fatalities. According to Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos Police Command, the operation unfolded on Thursday following intelligence reports pinpointing the criminals’ whereabouts.
“The kidnappers, taken by surprise, fiercely resisted arrest and engaged our officers in a shootout,” stated Superintendent Hundeyin. “However, they were overpowered by the superior firepower of the police. Nine suspects were neutralized, while two others managed to escape with gunshot wounds.”
The exchange of gunfire erupted in the bustling Ladipo area of Mushin, where the suspects were reportedly attempting to abduct a local businessman. Recovered from the scene were a cache of weapons, including four AK-47 rifles, four locally-made semiautomatic pistols, nine AK47 magazines, and three walkie-talkies.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s aide corroborated the incident on social media, specifying that six of the slain suspects were involved in the botched kidnapping attempt.
The Lagos Police Command is expected to release further details as the investigation progresses.
