Unmarked police vehicles have arrived at Royal Lodge as officers continue searches linked to the arrest of on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
The former prince was arrested earlier this week following an investigation by into allegations that he shared confidential material with convicted sex offender . The arrest was first reported by the BBC.
Andrew was later released under investigation, a legal status that allows police to continue inquiries without charging a suspect. Legal experts say this typically means detectives are still gathering evidence and may conduct further interviews before deciding whether to refer the case to prosecutors.
On Thursday evening, Andrew was photographed returning to Sandringham Estate, where he currently resides.
Buckingham Palace confirmed that was not informed of the arrest in advance. In a statement, the King said “the law must take its course.” The and are understood to support his position.
The investigation follows the release in January of millions of documents connected to Epstein. Police previously said they were assessing a complaint concerning the alleged disclosure of confidential information during Andrew’s tenure as a UK trade envoy.
Andrew has consistently denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein and has not responded to BBC requests for comment on the specific allegations arising from the latest file disclosures.
Searches at Royal Lodge are ongoing as the investigation continues.
