Abuja – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed claims by its National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, alleging that his signature was forged on official correspondence related to the party’s forthcoming national convention.
At a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, stated that Anyanwu personally signed the letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) notifying it of the PDP’s national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to Ologunagba, the signing took place just hours before the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on August 25, in the full presence of several state governors and top party officials.
He listed those present as Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, former Minister of Special Duties Tanimu Turaki, and former Senate President Bukola Saraki, among others.
Ologunagba emphasized that the PDP’s leadership views Anyanwu’s forgery claim as baseless and contrary to the facts.
“Senator Anyanwu personally signed the letters, including the one to INEC, in the presence of governors, NEC members, and other witnesses,” he said.
He added that during the NEC meeting, Governor Bala Mohammed, who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, confirmed that all official documents related to the convention had been duly signed by the National Secretary.
The PDP urged its members and the public to disregard the forgery allegation, reiterating that preparations for the party’s national convention are proceeding as planned.
