Abuja – The internal turmoil rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) worsened on Monday following the resignation of Honourable Sadiq Abdullahi, a member of the House of Representatives representing Sabon Gari Federal Constituency in Kaduna State.
Abdullahi, who also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), announced his decision in a letter addressed to his ward chairman and made available to journalists.
He attributed his exit to what he described as the PDP’s “persistent internal conflicts and loss of direction,” lamenting that the party’s prolonged crisis had hampered his ability to deliver effective representation to his constituents.
“The persistent internal conflicts and factionalisation within the PDP, which have culminated in a prolonged party crisis, are adversely affecting my ability to effectively represent my constituency and perform my duties optimally,” Abdullahi stated.
According to him, the decision came after “extensive consultations with stakeholders and political associates” and was motivated by the need to ensure “purposeful, inclusive, and effective representation beyond partisan boundaries.”
He, however, expressed appreciation to the PDP for the platform and opportunities it provided during his political journey, describing his time with the party as “invaluable.”
Abdullahi’s resignation came barely days after former National Secretary S.K.E. Udeh-Okoye also quit the PDP, underscoring a wave of discontent within the opposition’s ranks ahead of future elections.
The dual resignations have once again highlighted the growing instability and leadership crisis within the PDP, which many analysts say could threaten the party’s cohesion and electoral prospects if left unresolved.
