Lagos | September 11, 2025 – The Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has inaugurated its Lagos State chapter, calling on Niger Deltans across Nigeria to unite in addressing the region’s long-standing challenges of marginalisation and underdevelopment.
Speaking at the inauguration on Thursday, PANDEF National Chairman, Ambassador Godknows Igali, said the forum was established to provide the Niger Delta with a collective voice on issues affecting its people.
“We must speak with one voice instead of separately as Urhobo, Ijaw, Itsekiri, Ibibio, Efik, Edo, or Isoko. Only then can we confront the challenges of marginalisation and secure purposeful development for our people,” Igali stated.
He recalled the region’s history of agitation for recognition and rights, from the creation of the old Midwest State to PANDEF’s 16-point demand presented to former President Muhammadu Buhari. Founded in 2016 by Chief Edwin Clark with the support of traditional rulers and statesmen, PANDEF, he noted, continues to advocate for the Niger Delta’s interests.
Looking ahead, Igali announced plans to organise a Niger Delta cultural festival in Lagos and establish a South-South Investment Fund to boost investments in both oil and non-oil sectors.
Responding on behalf of Lagos-based Niger Deltans, Prof. Hope Eghagha raised concerns about neglected infrastructure, including the East-West Road and abandoned projects such as the Ogidigben Gas Industrial Park. He urged the federal government to ensure fairness and justice in handling issues of governance and security in the region.
The newly inaugurated interim Lagos executive committee is chaired by Prof. Eghagha (Delta State) and includes Chief Patrick Iyang (Cross River, Deputy Chairman), Prince Emmanuel Anderson Ogan (Rivers, Secretary), Sylvester Ebhodaghe (Edo, Publicity Secretary), and Iwekumo Idris (Bayelsa, Woman Leader).
The ceremony was conducted by Ambassador Igali on behalf of the PANDEF National Executive Committee and Board of Trustees.
