The Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has adjourned till Wednesday the hearing of a motion on notice in the suit filed by Folahan Adelabi against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its Acting National Chairman, and other defendants.
At Monday’s sitting, presided over by Justice Ladiran Akintola, the judge urged counsels for both parties to ensure all necessary processes were properly filed to enable an effective hearing when proceedings resume.
Justice Akintola had, last week, ruled on an ex parte motion permitting the PDP to go ahead with its planned national convention, while adjourning the motion on notice to November 10.
The claimant, Folahan Adelabi, is seeking a court order restraining the defendants — Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri (in his capacity as chairman of the PDP National Convention Organising Committee), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) — from taking any action that could truncate or frustrate the conduct of the party’s scheduled convention.
During Monday’s proceedings, Justice Akintola directed the PDP leadership to strictly comply with the guidelines, timetable, and schedule of activities earlier released for the convention.
He then adjourned the case till Wednesday for the hearing of all pending applications.
Meanwhile, journalists were barred from entering the courtroom to cover the proceedings, as security operatives were stationed at the court entrance to restrict access.
