The Osun State House of Assembly has passed two major bills aimed at strengthening the state’s justice and transportation systems — the Multi-Door Courthouse Establishment Bill and the Osun State Road Traffic Law and Vehicle Inspection Service Bill, 2025.
The passage followed the third reading of both bills during Monday’s plenary session, marking a significant legislative milestone in the state’s reform agenda.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Olamide Tiamiyu, the Multi-Door Courthouse Establishment Bill represents a “landmark move” toward reforming the judicial process by institutionalising alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms in Osun State.
“The legislation is aimed at providing multiple channels for case settlement, thereby reducing congestion in the courts and correctional facilities across the state,” the statement read.
The bill, sponsored by Hon. Femi Popoola, was first introduced in October 2024. It seeks to promote timely and cost-effective resolution of disputes through mediation, arbitration, and conciliation, rather than relying solely on conventional court processes.
“When implemented, this framework will reduce the burden on the judiciary and enhance access to justice for citizens,” Popoola said while presenting the bill’s objectives during plenary.
Traffic and Vehicle Safety Reform
Also passed was the Osun State Road Traffic Law and Vehicle Inspection Service Bill, 2025, an executive bill designed to improve road safety and ensure vehicle roadworthiness across the state.
Tiamiyu explained that the new law provides for the inspection, control, and enforcement of road safety standards for all categories of vehicles, including motorcycles, tricycles, trucks, and trailers.
“The legislation also mandates collaboration with relevant agencies to enhance road safety, traffic discipline, and compliance,” he said.
Speaker Commends Lawmakers
In his closing remarks, Speaker Adewale Egbedun commended members for their dedication to improving governance and public welfare through proactive lawmaking.
“These bills demonstrate our collective resolve to strengthen justice delivery and promote safety on our roads. The people of Osun will feel the positive impact of these reforms,” Egbedun stated.
He added that clean copies of both bills would be transmitted to Governor Ademola Adeleke for his assent, paving the way for their full implementation.
