Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Moyosore Adebanjo, hosted a powerful delegation from Brampton, Canada, for economic growth, cultural exchange, and community development.
The Canadian team was led by Mr. Richard Farward, Senior Manager of Financial Advisory Services at the Corporate Budget Office. Mr. Maurice Imadu, Adviser and Community Engagement Specialist in the Office of the Mayor of Brampton; Mrs. Kehinde Adelaja-Okoroafor, Founder of MakeMee Elegant Foundation; and Bashorun Oladapo Adekunle Sofowora, Founder of Rudder Blade Global Company were in the delegation.
During the interactive session, Mr. Farward commended the vibrancy of the Nigerian community in Brampton. He noted that over 12,000 Nigerians currently reside in the city, which makes them one of the most influential diaspora groups.
He added that Brampton, the 3rd largest city in Ontario and the 7th largest in Canada has made remarkable advancements in governance, including piloting several AI-driven initiatives. “We are eager to build a strong relationship and form meaningful partnerships where we can learn from each other, grow together, and leverage our respective strengths. It is truly an honor to be here,” he said.
Mr. Maurice Imadu highlighted Brampton’s cultural diversity and the city as one which embraces all communities. He emphasized that the Nigerian community is currently the fastest-growing demographic in Brampton, a fact which was recently acknowledged by the Mayor.
The Council Manager, Mr. Abiodun Osineye’s remarks aligned with that of the Chairman on exploring exchange programs that would allow both regions to learn from each other. He emphasized the importance of mutual exposure to governance processes and community development models.
The Leader of the House, Hon. Francis Nkwo, expressed profound appreciation for the delegation’s visit.
In response, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Moyosore Adebanjo, showcased key achievements recorded since the beginning of his administration. He reaffirmed the council’s willingness to build a sustainable partnership with the City of Brampton. He stated: “As a council, and as part of the larger Nigerian community, we possess immense potential. Onigbongbo LCDA hosts the highest number of creative agencies in Nigeria, and we are leveraging this strength to drive development. We are indeed pleased to host you today, and we welcome every opportunity to deepen our relationship through exchange programs and collaborative initiatives.”
