One person has died and three others sustained serious injuries following a road traffic crash involving a yam-laden truck and a commercial tricycle at Aiyetoro Junction along the traffic light corridor in the Epe area of Lagos State.
The Lagos State Transport Management Authority confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq.
According to the statement, preliminary findings showed that the truck, which was coming from Ijebu-Ode, attempted to make a U-turn inward Eleko at the junction when the driver reportedly lost control. The vehicle then rammed into a stationary tricycle, resulting in the fatality and leaving three occupants severely injured.
LASTMA officials on routine traffic duty at the scene were said to have responded promptly. In collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos Fire and Rescue Service and military personnel, they rescued the injured victims from the wreckage.
The Federal Road Safety Corps conveyed the deceased and the injured to the General Hospital in Epe for necessary medical attention and procedures, while security agencies maintained order and worked to restore normal traffic flow.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the repose of the victim’s soul. He also wished the injured a speedy recovery and called for a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident to ensure that anyone found responsible faces legal consequences.
