The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on gender-based violence (GBV), child abuse and all forms of exploitation, pledging stricter enforcement of laws, coordinated prosecution and uncompromising accountability for offenders in 2026.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Adijat Adeleye, made this known on Friday while unveiling the ministry’s policy direction for the year at its New Year get-together and award ceremony held at the Valley View Hall, Government House, Abeokuta.
Adeleye described the event as a strategic platform for policy reflection, capacity building and recognition of excellence in public service, noting that women’s empowerment, child protection and inclusive social development remain central priorities of the ministry.
Reflecting on the ministry’s achievements in the past year, the commissioner attributed its growing impact to purposeful leadership, strong political will and a clear reform agenda. She commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for creating an enabling policy environment that prioritises social inclusion, safeguards vulnerable groups and strengthens institutional performance across the state.
According to her, the governor’s leadership has translated vision into tangible outcomes for women, children and other vulnerable populations in Ogun State.
The commissioner said the ministry’s agenda for 2026 would be driven by results-oriented governance, citizen-centred service delivery and stronger inter-agency collaboration.
“With the full support of security agencies, justice-sector institutions and credible whistleblowers, the year 2026 will be extremely tough for perpetrators of gender-based violence, child abuse and all forms of exploitation,” Adeleye said.
“We will enforce the law without fear or favour, protect survivors decisively and ensure that every offender is exposed and prosecuted.”
She added that policies and programmes in the new year would focus on prevention, early intervention, survivor support and effective justice delivery, ensuring that social protection frameworks are responsive, resilient and sustainable.
Adeleye also acknowledged the contributions of development and implementing partners, including the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), among others.
She noted that these partnerships have provided not only financial support but also technical expertise, policy innovation, institutional strengthening and international capacity-building opportunities, which have enhanced professionalism, efficiency and accountability in the ministry’s service delivery.
