The Ogun State Government has announced plans to construct a N1 billion, 900-capacity Artificial Intelligence–enabled digital classroom complex at Remo Secondary School (RSS), Sagamu, in a major move aimed at strengthening technology-driven learning in public schools.
Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed the plan at the 80th anniversary celebration of the school, describing the project as a strategic response to the demands of a rapidly evolving global knowledge economy. He said the proposed complex would serve as the foundation of a broader smart-education ecosystem within the institution.
According to the governor, the project will go beyond AI-powered classrooms to include a modern resource centre and a fully equipped robotics laboratory designed to promote innovation, creativity and advanced digital skills among students.
“As a first step in providing continuous support, I am pledging the sum of N100 million to this institution,” Abiodun said. “To underscore my commitment, I will release 50 per cent of the pledge, N50 million, next week. Before I leave office, I will ensure that we begin and complete at least one of the projects mentioned.”
The governor also highlighted ongoing infrastructure improvements at the school, noting that its science laboratories have been remodelled and fitted with modern instructional equipment to meet current safety and learning standards. He added that extensive rehabilitation work has been carried out on both boys’ and girls’ hostels to enhance students’ comfort, security and overall wellbeing.
Reflecting on the significance of the school’s 80th anniversary, Abiodun described Remo Secondary School as more than an academic institution, calling it a symbol of enduring legacy and shared ownership.
“We are not just celebrating a school; we are celebrating a living institution,” he said, while commending the school’s alumni for their sustained commitment to preserving its heritage and supporting its development.
“These are not merely assets; they are statements of belief in the future, symbols of our shared sacrifice, and proof of what is possible when vision aligns with commitment,” the governor added.
Abiodun further revealed that Remo Secondary School has been designated as one of Ogun State’s flagship schools. He urged students to approach their education with dedication and integrity, and to uphold the long-standing tradition of excellence established by previous generations.
