The Ogun State Government has announced plans to deliver at least 3,000 new housing units in 2026, supported by a budgetary allocation of more than N100 billion to the housing sector.
The Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Jamiu Omoniyi, disclosed this on Monday during a briefing at the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
According to Omoniyi, the state also plans to deliver 579 low-income housing units in the second quarter of the year under a broader 2,500-unit affordable housing project targeted at workers in Siun, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area. He said the project would be jointly executed by the Ministry of Housing, the Ogun State Housing Corporation and the Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation.
The commissioner said the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun is working towards delivering 10,000 housing units before the end of its tenure in May 2027, noting that more than 5,000 units have already been completed within six and a half years.
“In line with the 2026 budget projection of over N100 billion, the housing sector is poised to deliver an additional 3,000 units of affordable housing across the state, including infrastructure-supported site-and-services schemes,” Omoniyi said.
He explained that the first phase of the Siun housing project, comprising 579 two-bedroom and three-bedroom units, is expected to commence in the first quarter of the year, with delivery projected for May or June. He added that land for the project has been secured, stakeholder engagement is ongoing, and land clearing is expected to begin before the end of the month.
Omoniyi also outlined several legacy projects planned by the state government, including an International Conference Centre at the Gateway International Airport in Iperu with a 2,500-seat banquet hall, the Appeal Court headquarters and residential quarters, Ibara GRA Phase II with 50 duplexes, and official quarters for commissioners, political appointees and lawmakers.
He further said the government would advance major housing developments at Prince Courts Estate, Siun; ISEYA Court, Oke-Mosan; Havila Court, Ibara; Havens Court, Igbeba in Ijebu-Ode; as well as Phase II of the Ibara GRA Urban Regeneration Scheme.
The commissioner noted that the state concluded 2025 on a strong note with the delivery of 30 additional duplexes at the Ibara GRA Cluster 1 extension and another 100 duplexes at the President Muhammadu Buhari Estate.
He added that the new initiatives align with the 2026 “Budget of Sustainable Legacy” presented by Governor Abiodun.
