Nollywood veteran Zack Orji recently opened up about his near-death experience after undergoing two critical brain surgeries in Nigeria. The actor, known for his roles in numerous Nigerian films, recounted the ordeal that led to his medical emergency.

Orji revealed that he had collapsed in the bathroom, triggering a dire situation that required immediate medical attention. “I can only say that it’s by the grace of God that I’m alive today because I passed out. I was out for like five and a half hours before help came,” he expressed.

Fortunately, Orji’s friend, Bala Ahmed, who was abroad in the UK at the time, was alerted by individuals present at Orji’s residence. Ahmed quickly mobilized Orji’s colleagues, who rushed to provide assistance. Benedict Johnson and another colleague, known as Labista, played pivotal roles in aiding Orji. “Benedict Johnson rushed to the house, and I was there on the floor, incoherent. I couldn’t even stand because when he raised me, I slumped again,” Orji recounted.

With swift action, they transported Orji to the National Hospital in Abuja, where the gravity of his condition became evident. Orji’s wife, who was in Lagos at the time, promptly flew to Abuja to be by her husband’s side.

On January 1st, the first life-saving surgery was performed by esteemed neurosurgeon Dr. Biodun Ogungbo. Orji expressed gratitude towards Dr. Ogungbo, describing him as an “awesome guy.” However, a month later, a follow-up scan revealed a residual blood clot, necessitating a second surgery, which was also conducted by Dr. Ogungbo.

The actor’s resilience and the timely intervention of his friends and medical team played instrumental roles in his recovery. Orji’s journey serves as a testament to the fragility of life and the importance of swift medical attention in critical situations.
