The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has dismissed as false a viral report claiming that the agency is currently recruiting new staff, describing it as the work of fraudulent recruitment syndicates.
In a statement issued on Monday via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Authority said the disclaimer became necessary following reports that unsuspecting Nigerians, particularly young and economically vulnerable individuals, were being deceived into paying large sums of money for non-existent employment opportunities.
According to the NMDPRA, the perpetrators allegedly issue fake letters of employment, make empty promises, and advertise positions that do not exist within the agency.
“We wish to state categorically that the NMDPRA is not conducting any recruitment exercise at this time. The Authority is not undertaking any form of employment at any level,” the statement said.
The agency stressed that any future recruitment exercise would be conducted strictly in line with established rules and guidelines governing employment in the Nigerian Public Service.
NMDPRA urged members of the public to disregard the fake employment advertisements and warned that the sole aim of those behind them is to defraud Nigerians and tarnish the image of the Authority.
“For accurate and up-to-date information regarding our activities, members of the public are advised to refer only to our official corporate website and verified social media platforms,” the statement added.
The Authority encouraged Nigerians to remain vigilant and to verify all recruitment-related claims through its official communication channels to avoid falling victim to fraud.
