The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMeT) and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) have formalised a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening professional training and capacity development in Nigeria’s aviation and meteorological sectors.
The agreement was sealed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at NiMeT headquarters in Abuja by the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Prof. Charles Anosike, and the Rector of NCAT, Dr Danjuma Ismaila.
The MoU reflects a shared commitment by both institutions to enhance collaboration in training, technical support and improved service delivery across the aviation industry.
Under the terms of the agreement, NiMeT and NCAT will collaborate in the use of training facilities, provide advisory support for aviation training programmes and organise specialised long- and short-term courses for NiMeT personnel.
The partnership also provides for staff exchange programmes, joint training initiatives and the use of NiMeT’s Training School in Oshodi, Lagos, for International Civil Aviation Organisation-compliant aviation training.
Key areas of focus under the framework include aviation operations and management, safety management systems, crisis management, aviation security, air navigation systems and airport operations. The institutions will also jointly organise programmes such as diploma training in Aviation Meteorology.
Prof. Anosike reaffirmed NiMeT’s commitment to continuous human capital development, stressing that sustained investment in training, technical collaboration and institutional partnerships remains critical to achieving operational excellence and supporting safe and efficient air navigation in Nigeria.
The development comes as NiMeT continues to play a vital role in weather forecasting and aviation safety. The agency recently projected a wave of dust haze across the northern and central parts of the country, alongside cloudy conditions and thunderstorms in the South, urging residents and travellers to take necessary precautions.
