Nigeria’s headline inflation rate declined to 14.63 per cent in September 2026, from 15.39 per cent recorded in August, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The bureau disclosed this in its Consumer Price Index report released on Thursday, indicating a 0.76 percentage point decrease in the headline inflation rate during the period under review.
According to the report, month on month headline inflation stood at 0.06 per cent in September.
Food inflation also recorded a decline, standing at 19.59 per cent year on year, while the month on month rate was negative 1.55 per cent.
The latest figures follow the moderation in headline inflation recorded in August, when the rate fell to 15.39 per cent from 15.43 per cent in July.
The September report suggests a further easing in the pace of price increases, although the figures do not necessarily mean that the prices of goods and services have returned to previous levels.
Further details on the inflation figures and their implications for the Nigerian economy are expected to emerge as more information from the NBS report becomes available.
