The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has renewed its call for effective Air-to-Ground Integration (AGI) as a critical strategy in the ongoing fight against insurgency, particularly in the complex security environment of North-West Nigeria.
The call was made by the Commandant of the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre, Air Vice Marshal Garba Ibrahim Jibia, during his operational tour of the North-West geopolitical zone.
Air Vice Marshal Jibia stressed that closer coordination between air assets and ground forces is essential for delivering precise and timely strikes, while also reducing the risk of civilian casualties. According to him, effective integration enhances operational efficiency and supports civilian harm mitigation efforts.
He explained that the engagement aligns with the command philosophy of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, which prioritises the delivery of decisive air power to achieve national security objectives.
During the visit, the commandant commended troops of Operation Fasan Yamma Sector 2 for their resilience and notable operational successes. He assured them of continued doctrinal guidance, improved training, and sustained support to enhance mission effectiveness.
Also speaking, the Commander of the 119 Composite Group of the Nigerian Air Force, Group Captain Harry Nanle Gumut, welcomed the commandant’s visit and reaffirmed the operation’s commitment to innovative air-ground coordination to improve joint operational outcomes.
The visit, according to the Nigerian Air Force, underscores its determination to ensure that practical airpower doctrines are effectively applied in operational theatres, with the aim of restoring lasting peace and security in the North-West region.
