The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has extended the deadline for filing individual annual tax returns to April 14, 2026, granting taxpayers an additional two weeks beyond the statutory due date.
The extension was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the agency’s Head of Corporate Communications, Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude. The new deadline shifts the filing date from April 1, following the traditional March 31 cutoff.
Executive Chairman of LIRS, Ayodele Subair, said the decision was aimed at giving taxpayers more time to complete their filings accurately. While reaffirming that March 31 remains the official deadline each year, he noted that the grace period is intended to ease compliance.
Subair urged taxpayers to treat the filing of annual returns as a routine civic obligation, stressing the importance of adherence to tax regulations.
He also reiterated that electronic filing remains mandatory, stating that submissions must be made exclusively through the LIRS eTax platform, as manual filing has been completely discontinued.
According to the agency, the eTax platform is secure and accessible at all times, and taxpayers are advised to ensure that their Tax Identification Number is correctly entered during the process.
The LIRS encouraged individuals requiring assistance to visit any of its offices or reach out through its official communication channels, as part of efforts to improve compliance and streamline tax administration in the state.
