The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has announced the temporary closure of its Iseyin campus following the tragic death of a 200-level student of the Department of Agricultural Economics.
The student was reportedly killed on Friday morning by a yet-to-be-identified commercial driver along the Iseyin–Saki Road in Oyo State. The incident sparked a violent protest by students, who allegedly set the commercial vehicle ablaze after the driver fled the scene.
Confirming the development in a statement on Saturday, the university’s Registrar, Olayinka Balogun, said the institution’s management decided to suspend academic activities at the Iseyin campus for two weeks in response to the tragedy.
Balogun said, “The management of LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, deeply regrets to announce the tragic passing of a 200-level student of the Department of Agricultural Economics, who was fatally wounded by a hit-and-run driver in Iseyin.
“This heartbreaking incident has cast a shadow over our university community, and we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.”
He added that the temporary closure was intended to allow students and staff to recover emotionally from the shock of the incident.
“In recognition of the emotional toll it has taken on our students and staff, the university management has approved a two-week suspension of academic activities at the Iseyin campus, effective immediately,” Balogun stated.
According to the statement, all students in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources are to proceed on a two-week break, with academic activities expected to resume on Monday, November 24, 2025.
Balogun also noted that officers on essential services who may be required to remain on duty would be duly informed.
He urged students to remain calm, stay safe, and honour the memory of their late colleague.
