The Association of Resident Doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, has suspended its indefinite strike after two months.
The doctors announced the decision in a letter dated Wednesday, October 1, 2025, addressed to the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Olakulehin Olawale. The suspension followed assurances given by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, during his visit to the hospital on Tuesday, September 30.
The letter, jointly signed by ARD President Dr. Adedokun Stephen and General Secretary Dr. Mustapha Adedapo, confirmed that clinical services will resume at 8 a.m. on Thursday, October 2.
“This decision was reached in honor of the visit of His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde, Executive Governor of Oyo State, and in recognition of his sincere commitment to resolving the longstanding demands of our association,” the letter partly read.
The doctors, however, stressed the need for sustained government commitment to addressing issues of poor working conditions, inadequate medical equipment, and welfare challenges that had prompted the strike.
The indefinite strike began on July 29, 2025, crippling emergency and specialist services and forcing patients in Ogbomoso and nearby towns to seek care in other facilities.
The suspension of the strike comes as a major relief for residents who rely heavily on the teaching hospital for affordable healthcare.
The ARD expressed optimism about “a renewed spirit of collaboration” with the incoming hospital board to reposition LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in line with the governor’s vision.
