The has launched an investigation into an incident in which an ambulance reportedly struck a spectator during the 11th edition of the .
The development was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, , in a statement shared late Saturday on his official X handle. He clarified that the incident occurred near the finish line area of the marathon.
According to the statement, the victim, identified as a female non-athlete within the event arena, came into contact with an ambulance that had been deployed as part of the official medical emergency response for the race. The vehicle was reportedly conveying athletes who had earlier required medical attention at the time of the incident.
Omotoso explained that officials at the scene immediately alerted the ambulance crew to stop once the situation was noticed. The emergency medical team promptly assessed the woman and evacuated her for immediate on-the-spot care before transferring her to a public health facility for further evaluation.
He stated that the victim sustained bruises and complained of chest pains but was stabilised at the scene, with her vital signs confirmed to be stable. She is currently receiving medical care and responding positively to treatment.
The Commissioner added that the Ministry of Health and the Lagos State Sports Commission are closely monitoring the situation. Senior government officials have also visited the hospital to assess her condition.
He assured that the patient remains stable and under professional supervision, noting that a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
The annual marathon, which attracts thousands of athletes and spectators from within and outside Nigeria, is one of the flagship sporting events in Lagos State.
