The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the prompt payment of pensions to retired civil servants, assuring that public service does not end upon retirement.
Governor gave the assurance during a meeting with the leadership of the Association of Lagos State Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries, led by Otunba Nurudeen Ojora Adejiyan and Mrs. Dr. Abeke Taire.
In a statement shared on his official X handle on Friday, the governor commended the retirees for their years of dedicated service, describing them as key contributors to the development of the state.
Sanwo-Olu noted that Lagos has maintained a consistent record of meeting its pension obligations, stressing that retirees should not have to worry about the timing of their payments after serving the state faithfully.
“In Lagos, public service does not end when someone leaves office. These are men and women who gave their best years to our state, and they deserve respect and dignity in retirement,” the governor said.
He added that the state remains committed to ensuring that pension payments are made promptly, describing it as a responsibility the government takes seriously.
“One thing I am particularly proud of is that Lagos continues to meet its obligations to our retirees. We remain consistent and timely with pension payments because it is the right thing to do. After serving the state faithfully, no one should have to worry about when their pension will be paid,” he stated.
The governor acknowledged that while improvements can still be made, the administration’s direction remains clear in prioritising the welfare of retired public servants.
The meeting underscores the state government’s ongoing efforts to sustain reliable pension disbursements and uphold the dignity of former public officers.
