Youth groups in Ayetoro-Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State have expressed support for the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), condemning what they described as a smear campaign against its chairman, Joash Amupitan.
The youths staged a solidarity walk across the community, carrying placards and chanting slogans to affirm their confidence in the electoral body’s leadership.
They described recent calls for the chairman’s resignation as anti-democratic, urging those behind such moves to desist from actions capable of undermining Nigeria’s electoral system.
According to the group, attempts to discredit the INEC leadership could weaken public trust in the country’s democratic process.
They also warned that any effort to remove the commission’s chairman would be resisted by pro-democracy advocates across the country.
The demonstration, they said, was aimed at reinforcing support for credible electoral governance and safeguarding democratic institutions.
