“Bí bàtà bá ń rọ̀ pọnla – pọnla jù, ọ̀ṣẹ́ tán, to fẹ́ ya ni.” This timeless Yoruba proverb reminds us that when a shoe or drum keeps making an unusually loud sound, it is a sign that it is about to tear. In the same way, when someone pushes a bad habit, negative behaviour, pride, or another person’s patience beyond its absolute limit, a breakdown or disgrace is only a matter of time. Àṣejù ko dára; ohun gbogbo ní ààlà rẹ̀. Know when to stop, show self-control, and respect people’s boundaries because wisdom prevents regret, but excess often leads to shame.
