President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday commissioned several major infrastructure projects in Bayelsa State, including the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge and newly constructed dual-carriage roads linking New Yenagoa City to Gbarantoru.
The projects form part of ongoing efforts by the state government to improve connectivity and boost economic development across the region.
During the visit, the President also inaugurated a 60-megawatt gas-fired turbine plant, an independent power project developed by the Bayelsa State Government to enhance electricity supply.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including former President Goodluck Jonathan and former First Lady Patience Jonathan, alongside Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri.
Speaking ahead of the commissioning, Governor Diri had explained that the dual carriageway linking New Yenagoa City to the NLNG Road at Gbarantoru would serve as an alternative route to the busy Yenagoa-Mbiama road, easing traffic and improving access within the state capital.
He also noted that the gas turbine plant had undergone preparations for a test run prior to its inauguration, adding that it is expected to strengthen power generation capacity in the state.
The governor further disclosed that the first phase of the Nembe-Brass road project is on track for completion by the end of 2026, as part of broader infrastructure expansion plans.
