Political developments are gathering momentum in Jigawa State as an aide to Governor Umar Namadi has stepped down from his position to pursue elective office ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Auwal Ibrahim Sansani, who served as Special Assistant to the governor on Small Town Water Supply, formally resigned his appointment in a letter dated March 25, 2026. The resignation was submitted through the office of the Secretary to the State Government.
Sansani said his decision was in line with federal guidelines mandating political appointees seeking elective positions to vacate their offices ahead of the election cycle.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Namadi for the opportunity to serve, noting that his tenure allowed him to contribute to development efforts, particularly in improving water access in smaller communities across the state.
The former aide also thanked members of the All Progressives Congress for their support, describing his time in office as a significant phase of his public service.
Although he did not specify the position he intends to contest, sources indicated that the move is part of early political positioning ahead of party primaries.
Sansani is regarded as a notable political mobiliser in Northern Nigeria and currently serves as National President of the Tinubu Northern Youth Forum, a group advocating support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu across the nineteen northern states.
Political analysts say more resignations from appointees are likely in the coming months as aspirants across the country align with electoral regulations and intensify preparations for what is expected to be a highly competitive 2027 general election.
As of the time of filing this report, the Jigawa State Government had yet to issue an official response to the development.
