The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in partnership with Rite Foods Limited, will honour seven exceptional Nigerian undergraduates with ₦5 million each at the maiden Academic Excellence Recognition Award Ceremony scheduled to hold on Tuesday in Lagos.
The initiative is designed to recognise and reward outstanding academic achievement recorded during the 2025 admission exercise while encouraging a culture of excellence among students across the country.
In a statement issued by JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Fabian Benjamin, the examination body said each of the seven beneficiaries was selected for demonstrating exceptional performance in both the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the Post-UTME or institutional screening exercise conducted by their respective universities.
According to the board, the awardees emerged through a transparent, rigorous and merit-based selection process coordinated by JAMB.
It explained that six of the recipients represent Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, while the seventh award will be presented to the highest-performing admitted candidate living with a disability.
The beneficiaries are students of the University of Lagos, University of Uyo, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, University of Maiduguri and Federal University of Technology, Minna.
JAMB noted that the recipient of the special award for the highest-performing admitted candidate living with a disability is also from the University of Lagos, making the institution the only university with two award recipients in the inaugural edition of the programme.
The board disclosed that the ceremony is expected to attract more than 300 participants, including the Minister of Education, JAMB Registrar Is-haq Oloyede, vice-chancellors, heads of regulatory agencies, principal officers of tertiary institutions, education stakeholders, development partners, corporate leaders, students and members of the media.
JAMB said its collaboration with Rite Foods underscores the commitment of both organisations to promoting academic excellence, rewarding merit and inspiring young Nigerians to strive for outstanding educational achievement.
