The Independent National Electoral Commission has directed all Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) to suspend ongoing publicity and preparations for the proposed nationwide voter revalidation exercise pending further instructions.
The directive was disclosed in a statement issued by the Commission’s Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony.
INEC had earlier announced plans to commence the voter revalidation exercise on April 13, 2026, as part of efforts to update the national voter register ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a related development, the commission also rescheduled its planned meeting with RECs, converting it from a physical gathering to a virtual session.
The meeting, initially scheduled to hold on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., will now be conducted via Zoom, with commissioners directed to remain in their respective states.
INEC stated that further details, including login credentials for the virtual meeting, would be communicated in due course.
The commission expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the changes and reaffirmed its commitment to effective coordination and transparent communication with stakeholders.
