The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports claiming that it has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, describing the information as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Friday and e-signed by the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola, the Commission said it had not published any timetable for the 2027 polls.
INEC stressed that it operates strictly within the provisions of the law, noting that Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, mandates the Commission to publish a notice of election not later than 360 days before the date fixed for a general election.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission wishes to categorically refute reports circulating in some quarters claiming that the Commission has released the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election,” the statement said.
“The Commission wishes to state clearly that this information is false and misleading. INEC has not released any timetable or schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election.”
The Commission emphasised that any timetable or schedule of activities purportedly issued outside the statutory framework could not have originated from INEC.
INEC assured Nigerians that the official timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election would be released in due course, in full compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and the Electoral Act, 2022.
It added that once released, the timetable would be communicated through its established and verified channels, urging the public and the media to disregard the fake reports and rely only on information from INEC’s official platforms for accurate and authoritative information.
