The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced the resumption of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise, with the third and final phase set to begin on May 11, 2026.
In a statement, the commission said the exercise, which was earlier suspended on April 17, will run until July 10, 2026. It explained that the pause in the second phase was to allow for the clean-up of the voter register after its publication for claims and objections.
INEC urged eligible Nigerians who have attained the age of 18, as well as those who missed earlier registration phases, to take advantage of the final window to register.
The commission also advised already registered voters seeking to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards, or correct personal information to use its online portal or visit its offices across states and local government areas nationwide.
As part of the process, INEC disclosed that the voter register will be displayed for claims and objections from July 23 to July 29, 2026. It noted that the exercise is a statutory requirement aimed at enabling citizens to scrutinise the register and ensure its accuracy and credibility.
The commission reassured the public that adequate arrangements have been made for a smooth exercise and called on all eligible citizens to participate actively in strengthening Nigeria’s electoral system.
