Abuja – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has accredited 121 domestic and international observer groups to monitor the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election, scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
The list of accredited observers was published by the electoral body in an advertisement in The PUNCH newspaper on Monday.
According to INEC, the accredited groups will monitor the electoral process and assess its transparency, credibility, and adherence to democratic principles.
Foreign and Domestic Observers
Among the international observer missions cleared by INEC are the British High Commission, the European Union, and the High Commission of Canada.
On the domestic front, notable civil society organisations such as Yiaga Africa Initiative, The Electoral Hub, and the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) are among those approved to observe the polls.
INEC stated that the accreditation process is part of its commitment to ensuring openness and international best practices in election administration.
Election Preparations in Progress
The Commission further confirmed that 2.8 million voters have been registered to participate in the off-cycle election.
INEC also announced that the final list of candidates for the election has been released, with 16 political parties successfully meeting the submission deadline of May 12, 2025, and cleared to field candidates.
Campaign activities are currently underway in line with the official election timetable, as political parties intensify efforts to woo voters across the state.
The accreditation of local and international observers is seen as a key step in strengthening public confidence and transparency in the electoral process as Anambra prepares for another crucial democratic exercise.
