Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has offered automatic employment to nine former members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) from the state who recently received Presidential NYSC Honours Awards for their exceptional service.
Otti made the announcement on Tuesday while receiving the awardees, led by the NYSC State Coordinator, Gladys Adama, at Government House, Umuahia. He directed the State Head of Service to immediately issue appointment letters to the beneficiaries.
The recipients are Nwogu Chinonso, Anyanwu Promise, Ezieme Uba, Emmanuel Ezinne, Abia Grace, Nwafike Chiemela, Ugwa Mark, Eke Miracle, and James Chukwuebuka.
“On behalf of the state government, you are going to leave here with a token. But beyond that, I hereby temporarily lift the embargo on employment to employ the nine of you, except if any of you is not interested,” Otti said.
The governor explained that the gesture was both a reward for excellence and an encouragement for youths to strive for distinction. “Honourable Attorney General, please communicate to the Head of Service that the nine of them should be given automatic employment. No interviews. They have already passed the interviews,” he added, noting that the new employees could begin work as early as Monday.
He urged the beneficiaries to remain exemplary in their service to the state and the nation.
Responding on behalf of the group, Mr. Nwogu Chinonso from Obingwa Local Government Area, who served in Zamfara State, thanked Governor Otti for the opportunity. Describing him as “a true leader and the Joshua of our time,” Chinonso pledged that they would serve Abia State with commitment and dedication.
