Governor has approved the release of an additional N2.3 billion for the payment of gratuities in , as part of efforts to offset the backlog of outstanding entitlements owed to retirees.
The latest disbursement brings the total amount paid by the administration to about N80 billion in gratuities and other emoluments since Governor Eno assumed office on May 29, 2023.
Upon taking office, the governor inherited a backlog estimated at N111 billion, covering gratuities and other outstanding payments dating back to 2012. During the 2023 electioneering campaign and subsequent presentation of the 2026 budget, he pledged to consistently release funds to reduce the backlog.
The payment of gratuities aligns with the administration’s broader social investment agenda, which places emphasis on supporting vulnerable groups and promoting compassionate governance.
As part of this drive, the government has delivered 335 ARISE Compassionate Homes to beneficiaries, with a target of 500 units within the governor’s first term. In addition, 50 elderly citizens drawn on a rotational basis from the state’s 368 wards receive N50,000 monthly stipends under the ARISE Elderly Care Initiative.
More than 10,000 vulnerable residents have also been enrolled free of charge into the ARISE Medical Insurance Scheme, according to the state government.
The administration maintains that these social interventions are being implemented alongside major projects in tourism, aviation, agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and power.
Officials say the continued release of funds for gratuities underscores the governor’s commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises and improving the welfare of citizens.
