The Ghanaian government has deported 42 Nigerians from the Ashanti Region following court rulings over offences linked to prostitution, fraud and other criminal activities.
The development was confirmed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Frank Amoakohene, in a post on his official X account, which was cited by TVC News on Monday.
According to Amoakohene, the deportations followed the conclusion of judicial processes involving several cases. He disclosed that the exercise also affected other foreign nationals, bringing the total number of deportees to 68.
Those deported include 13 Cameroonians, three Ivorians, three Burkinabe nationals and seven citizens of Benin Republic.
“A total of 42 Nigerians, 13 Cameroonians, three Ivorians, three Burkinabe nationals and seven Benin nationals have been deported from the Ashanti Region to their respective countries following various court rulings involving Q-Net, prostitution and other criminal activities,” Amoakohene stated.
He commended the Ghana Immigration Service for what he described as professionalism and commitment to enforcing the country’s immigration laws while respecting due process and human dignity. He added that the collaboration between the immigration service, the courts and other security agencies has helped to enhance public safety and maintain law and order in the region.
Meanwhile, TVC News recalls that Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently announced the repatriation of 192 convicted foreign nationals. The operation was carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Immigration Service and the Nigerian Correctional Service.
The EFCC said the exercise followed multiple convictions secured after the prosecution of 759 suspects arrested during a major sting operation conducted in December 2024 at Victoria Island, Lagos.
