A fire outbreak at the Polaris Bank building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, was successfully contained by emergency responders, preventing what authorities described as a potentially major incident.
The fire occurred at about 11:33 a.m. on Thursday on the third floor of the 17-storey building, which is used primarily as a parking facility. The incident involved a stationary saloon car parked within the structure.
According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, firefighters from the Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu Fire Stations were immediately mobilised to the scene and succeeded in bringing the blaze under control before it could spread to other vehicles or parts of the building.
In a statement issued by the agency, the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed that the fire was swiftly extinguished and that no lives were lost.
She explained that the emergency response team acted promptly upon receiving the distress call, limiting the damage to the affected vehicle and its immediate surroundings.
The agency stated that firefighters prevented the fire from escalating to other sections of the high-rise structure, thereby averting significant property damage and disruption.
Authorities further confirmed that no casualties or injuries were recorded during the incident.
Following the successful operation, the fire was completely extinguished and normal activities resumed in the area.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reiterated its commitment to rapid emergency response and urged residents and organisations to maintain fire safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
