Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has submitted three nominees to the Adamawa State House of Assembly for confirmation as commissioners, following recent resignations within the State Executive Council.
The move comes days after the resignation of the Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, Adamu Atiku Abubakar. Abubakar stepped down after reportedly declining to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move taken by several members of the administration.
The governor forwarded the names of Sali Idris from Maiha Local Government Area, Muhammed Suleiman from Mubi North Local Government Area, and Chubado Mohammed from Jada Local Government Area to the Assembly for screening and confirmation.
Speaker of the House, Bathiya Wesley, directed the Clerk of the Assembly to notify the nominees to appear for screening on March 9, 2026, with their curriculum vitae.
Abubakar was said to be one of three commissioners who opposed the defection to the APC. The others reportedly include the Commissioners for Livestock Development and Justice, Tijjani Maksha and Afraimu Jingi.
While Abubakar’s resignation has been confirmed, the submission of new nominees suggests that the remaining commissioners may have vacated their positions or resigned.
The Assembly is expected to screen the nominees in the coming days as part of the process to reconstitute the state cabinet.
