The family of renowned Nigerian gospel singer and minister, Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, has announced her death.
In a statement released on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the family confirmed that the gospel artiste passed away at a hospital in Lagos after an illness.
Omije Ojumi was widely known for her emotional and deeply spiritual ministrations, often delivered with tears, a style that earned her the sobriquet “Omije Ojumi,” meaning “tears of the eyes.”
Concerns about her health had intensified in October 2025 after videos circulated on social media showing her in a visibly weakened state during a spiritual programme. In one of the clips, the singer was unable to speak and responded only with tears when addressed by a clergyman, prompting widespread concern among fans and fellow ministers. At one point, she reportedly struggled to identify herself.
Observers also noted that she had a plaster on her right hand, suggesting she had recently received medical care. The footage triggered an outpouring of prayers and messages of support from across Nigeria’s gospel music community.
Omije Ojumi was celebrated for her passionate worship sessions and soul-stirring songs, which endeared her to audiences within and beyond the gospel music circle. Her death has drawn tributes from admirers who recall her as a devoted minister whose music touched many lives.
