Renowned British-Nigerian actress, singer and fashion icon, Patty Boulaye of the “Joy Girl” advert fame is in happy mood.
It is her 45th wedding anniversary and she’s using this great occasion to express sweet things about her husband of so many years. In a message on her social media handles, Patty was effusive in her appreciation of a man who has stood by her despite the odds over the years.
The Lagosian now brings you her message as she lovingly passed it. Enjoy the words and pictures from an iconic marriage that stood the test of time:
“Happy Wedding Anniversary to my husband and best friend Stephen Komlosy. Against all odds and by God’s loving kindness, we are now entering our 45th year. It feels like just a few years, though we have been through much trials and tough tests.
When we got married members of the press gave our marriage one year. I wonder what has happened to those individuals. Others closer to us tried devious ways of breaking us up. I wish them all the best. Our marriage was apparently unusual in the 70s, but not to me. Luckily for me I believe in none other than myself and my Creator.
I won’t bore you with details, I will need a book for that. Stephen and I got married in a registry office much to my disappointment. Being a devoted Catholic my dream had always been to get married in the Catholic Church where divorce was not an option. It was impossible because my Stephen was twice married. I turned to the Lord. He is definitely the God of the impossible. I did my penance and continued to attend Mass every Sunday, but could not receive the Holy Eucharist. I prayed constantly and prayer Fasted every Friday hoping and praying that my prayers will break through all of the other billions of prayers going to God from His children.
It was ten years before the great miracle of being granted a Special Dispensation by Pope (Saint) John Paul II. Our Church wedding was officiated by Bishop Howard Tripp, Monsignor Renaulds and Canon Davis. May they all rest in peace.
GOD IS GREAT INDEED! I thank God for my wonderfully kind, loving and supportive husband, a wonderful father of six children and grandfather of nine and great grandad of two. I don’t know God’s plans for us but I pray He’ll bless us with many more years together.
