Barely two weeks after similar explosions happened in the Abule Ado area of Lagos, another explosion this morning rocked the city of Akure, capital of Ondo State in Southwest Nigeria.

According to reports, a large portion of Akure-Owo Road was split aside by the force of the explosion with the blast yield destroying scores of surrounding houses.

This new development initially created fears of a possible deliberate attempt to unsettle the region in the wake of the decision to set up the Amotekun corps.

The men of the Ondo State Police Command have however come out to allay the fears of Nigerians that this might be another deliberate explosion. The command explains that the Akure incident was caused by the accident of a vehicle conveying explosives to a quarry.
