Northwest University, Kano, has granted the Emir of Kano, Dr. Muhammadu Sanusi II, special admission into its Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme, which integrates Common Law and Sharia studies.
The approval places the monarch directly in Level 200 of the Faculty of Law and takes effect from the 2024/2025 academic session. The decision was confirmed in an official letter issued by the university’s Directorate of Examinations, Admissions and Records.
The letter, dated January 12, 2026, and signed by the Head of the Directorate, Jafaru Muhammad, on behalf of the Registrar, stated that the Emir’s admission followed a special application and was granted after he satisfied the institution’s requirements for special consideration.
Details of the admission became public after the document was shared on social media by a former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad.
According to the letter, the admission is subject to the Emir’s compliance with the university’s rules and regulations as outlined in the Northwest University Student Handbook.
Northwest University, Kano, is a state-owned tertiary institution offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across several disciplines, including law, sciences, humanities and social sciences.
Dr. Sanusi, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and a respected scholar, continues to combine academic pursuits with his traditional leadership role, adding the law programme to his extensive educational background.
