September 30, 2025 – A faction of the Labour Party (LP) in Edo State has called on the police to arrest activist Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama Pee, over her alleged assault and cyberbullying of the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure.
The appeal was made on Monday by the factional state chairman, Elizabeth Ativie, during a press briefing at the Edo NUJ complex. She also urged the police to investigate and apprehend those she claimed were sponsoring Oruche, saying such actions would serve as a deterrent.
Oruche had been briefly detained on Saturday following a confrontation with Abure at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. Reports said she accused the LP chairman of being responsible for the economic hardship in the country as he prepared to board a flight to Benin.
The altercation reportedly continued upon arrival at the Benin Airport, where Mama Pee was allegedly attacked by suspected thugs loyal to Abure. Viral videos captured a scuffle at the airport exit, with men attempting to drag her before security and immigration officials intervened. In one of the recordings, Oruche claimed she was assaulted.
Ativie, however, insisted the party would not tolerate “intimidation or humiliation” of its leaders and revealed that a fundamental rights suit would be filed against Oruche.
“Ms. Precious Oruche has clearly crossed the line and we are going to seek the protection of the law against any premeditated actions against the party or its officials. Character assassination, assault, and cyberbullying are severe crimes, and we think the police must fish out her sponsors and bring them to book,” Ativie declared.
She also appealed to the LP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to “educate and properly inform his followers so they are not misguided.
