Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State on Friday became the latest community to throw its weight behind Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo as he seeks re-election in the November 8, 2025, governorship election.
Thousands of residents converged on the LGA headquarters in Ukpo to endorse the governor and his wife, Dr. Nonye Soludo, alongside the Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim. The event, which coincided with the community’s annual New Yam Festival — known as Iweife-Ubi — also featured the donation of an undisclosed amount towards Soludo’s re-election campaign.
The endorsement rally attracted traditional rulers, the Chairman of Dunukofia LGA, Clement Ozumba, political stakeholders, members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and various support groups.
Speaking at the event, Governor Soludo expressed gratitude for the people’s steadfast support, recalling the strong backing he enjoyed from Dunukofia during the 2021 governorship election.
“I appreciate the people of Dunukofia for standing by us in 2021. We won resoundingly then, and I am confident we will do even better this time,” Soludo said. “In the last three and a half years, we have been building a solid foundation. There are massive improvements in the education sector, and public schools are no longer in the deplorable state we met them.”
The governor also inaugurated the Dunukofia Legislative Building, commending the community for its contributions to local governance.
“The local government system is working in Anambra State, and Dunukofia is part of that success story. What we have achieved in this first term surpasses what many governments accomplished in eight years,” he said.
Highlighting his administration’s achievements, Soludo noted that over 8,000 teachers have been employed, public schools upgraded, hospitals built, and security restored across the state. He assured residents of even greater development if re-elected.
In his remarks, the President-General of Ukpo, Cyril Ezewulu, said Dunukofia’s support for Soludo was “total and unwavering.”
“Dunukofia is for Soludo. His return for a second term is non-negotiable. We will vote massively for APGA in November,” Ezewulu declared.
LGA Chairman Clement Ozumba praised the governor for his developmental strides, citing road construction projects totaling over 13 kilometers and the establishment of smart schools, including the Community Primary School in Umunachi.
Other dignitaries, including the Commissioner for Lands, Prof. Offornze Amaucheazi (SAN), and representatives of market women, youth groups, and professionals, also lauded the governor’s achievements and pledged continued support.
The event also featured the conferment of the chieftaincy title Agubuzo na Dunukofia on Chief Jim Nwabueze and prize presentations to winners of agricultural competitions under the community’s farm-to-table movement.
Winners of categories such as the largest cassava, yam, vegetable, and poultry farms received cash prizes ranging from ₦200,000 to ₦500,000.
The rally concluded with speeches reaffirming Dunukofia’s commitment to sustaining the “Soludo Solution” and ensuring APGA’s victory at the polls.
