The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to intensify its operations against banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes in Zamfara State despite the recent loss of three police officers in active service.
Speaking during a visit to Zamfara State on Tuesday, the IGP joined grieving families, police personnel, and members of the public at the Islamic funeral prayers (Salat al-Janazah) held in honour of the fallen officers.
During the visit, Disu also met with officers and men of the Zamfara State Police Command, where he expressed condolences and solidarity with the command over the tragic loss.
The police chief was received by top government officials and security stakeholders, including the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Mallam Abubakar M. Nakwada, who represented Governor Dauda Lawal at the funeral activities.
Addressing police personnel, Disu described the deceased officers as brave and dedicated officers who paid the ultimate price while defending the lives and property of citizens against criminal elements operating in the state.
He assured the bereaved families that the sacrifices of their loved ones would remain honoured and remembered by the Force.
According to the IGP, the unfortunate incident would not weaken the resolve of security agencies but would instead serve as motivation to intensify efforts toward restoring peace and security in Zamfara and other affected areas.
He urged officers to remain committed, professional, and resilient in carrying out their responsibilities, stressing that criminal groups would not be allowed to frustrate ongoing security operations.
Disu commended the Zamfara State Police Command for recent achievements recorded in the fight against crime, including the arrest of suspected criminals, recovery of explosives and stolen motorcycles, rescue of kidnapped victims, and successful operations against armed bandits.
The IGP noted that the successes demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing and collaboration among security agencies in tackling security challenges across the state.
He further assured officers of continued support through improved welfare packages, logistics, and operational resources aimed at enhancing policing efficiency.
The police boss emphasized the need for stronger community engagement and intelligence gathering, describing them as critical tools in the fight against banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.
He urged personnel of the command to remain disciplined and dedicated to their constitutional duties, adding that the most fitting tribute to the fallen officers would be sustained efforts to ensure peace, justice, and public safety.
Disu reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to protecting lives and property while strengthening nationwide operations against violent crimes.
